Jones, Mallin voted to league Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In helping No. 11/10 Memphis women's soccer to a 2-0 week, freshman Saorla Miller was named the AAC Rookie of the Week while freshman Mya Jones and senior Stasia Mallin were listed to the Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Miller scored her first points of her Memphis career behind a goal and an assist last week. The rookie first assisted on the Tigers' final goal in a 4-1 win against Houston. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native followed that up on Sunday, netting the game-winning goal against SMU for her first score of the season.
Monday's award is Miller's first AAC honor of her career. She also became the 10th different Tiger to be recognized this season in the league's weekly awards list.
Jones collected her fifth weekly honor after also scoring a goal and an assist last week. The freshman began the week with a goal against Houston. Jones then assisted on the Tigers' game-winning score for her 13th point of the season. Her seven total helpers this year rank second in single-season program history for assists by a freshman.
Mallin continued her impressive senior campaign by netting a goal and an assist in the Tigers' 4-1 win against Houston on Senior Night. The Carmel, Ind., native tallied the game-winning score off a direct corner kick, and added her 12th assist of the season later in the contest. Her 12 assists this year move her into a tie for second in single-season assists in program history.
On Sunday, Mallin helped the Memphis back line in holding SMU below its season average in shots per game, including just three in the second half. Mallin's Honor Roll nod is her fifth league recognition this season.
Memphis will return to action this week as the Tigers close the regular season at Tulsa on Thursday. Kickoff from Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
