Memphis opens conference play against UCF

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers open American Athletic Conference play with a home game against UCF on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off against the Knights is scheduled for 4 p.m., at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, and is broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Faculty and staff, along with their guests, can attend Saturday's game for free with a valid UofM photo ID.

Memphis returns home after a trip to Washington DC, dropping its game against George Washington. The Tigers look to rebound as conference play begins after garnering a 5-8 record outside of league play.
Jamirah Shutes, a true freshman, is tops on the roster scoring 14.1 points per game. Her scoring output is first in The American among freshman, and eighth in the conference for any class. Alana Davis is the other Tiger scoring in double-figures, netting 12.6 points per outing.
Davis leads Memphis on the glass, snaring 9.2 boards per game. Her rebounding ranks fourth in The American as the conference schedule opens. The sophomore forward excels in earning the Tigers extra offensive possessions, corralling misses on the offensive glass. Davis ranks eighth in the country on the offensive boards, grabbing 4.6 rebounds each contest.
Scouting the Knights
UCF visits Memphis after finishing its non-conference schedule with a 47-45 win over Quinnipiac. Lawriell Wilson hit the go-ahead basket with just 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Knights enter The American portion of the schedule with an 11-2 record.
Kornelia 'Kay Kay' Wright leads UCF in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game. She ranks third in the conference in scoring average, and first in total points. She is the only Knight to score in double figures, and is one of two players to hit more than 10 three-pointers.
Wright also leads the team in assists, dishing out 47 assists, and ranks third on the team in rebounding.
The Tigers and Knights have faced each other 28 times in the teams' history, with Memphis holding a 16-12 series advantage. After winning eight straight from 2014-17, UCF picked up both wins last season. UCF is coached by Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, now in her third year at the helm.
