MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After opening the 2019 dual-match season last weekend, the Memphis women's tennis team will remain on the road for a trio of matches this weekend in Arizona.
The Tigers (0-2) are set for a double header against Arizona and Northern Arizona Friday in Tucson, before capping the weekend with a match at Arizona State Sunday in Tempe.
Memphis will face Arizona at 11 a.m. (CT), with the contest against Northern Arizona set for 3:30 p.m. (CT). Sunday's first serve at Arizona State is set for 11 a.m. (CT).
Memphis dropped a pair of matches last week in the squad's first ITA Kick-Off Weekend appearance since 2015. After falling in the season-opener at Vanderbilt, the Tigers dropped a close 4-3 decision against Winthrop. Junior Claire Sullivan, sophomore Laura Bente and freshman Aleks Topalovic each notched singles wins in their last outing.
Friday's match marks the season opener for Arizona. The Wildcats posted a 9-16 mark last spring and return seven to its 2019 roster. Senior Emma Wilson capped the fall season ranked No. 86 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.
The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona (1-1) split a pair of matches last weekend. NAU claimed a victory against UC Davis to open its season before falling to Arizona State. The Lumberjacks are led by Chiara Tomasetti, who ranks No. 75 nationally.
Arizona State (3-2) began the season with three wins before falling to Wake Forest and Cal at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Columbia, S.C. The Sun Devils also boast a nationally-ranked player in Cali Jankowski, who ranks No. 84.
Arizona and NAU both won the lone contests in the respective series histories against the Tigers. The Tigers are 0-2 all-time against Arizona State.
