Volleyball Posts Win Over Florida A&M

Flowers, Murrihy, Palmer each record a double-double in the victory.
MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Hannah Flowers, Molly Murrihy and Anna Palmer each posted double-doubles to lift the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Florida A&M Friday. The match was the first of four for Memphis in UT Martin's Skyhawk Invitational this weekend.

The Tigers won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-27, 25-14 and 25-17. With the win, Memphis improves to 2-3. The Rattlers fall to 0-4.

Flowers (16/12) and Palmer (10/13) both recorded their double-double performances via kills and digs. Murrihy logged her double-double with 46 assists and 11 digs.

The Tigers have a quick turnaround and play host UT Martin in a 5 p.m. (CT) match Friday afternoon.

Tigers Tidbits
- Molly Murrihy registered career highs for assists (46) and digs (11) Friday. It was the first double-double of her career.
- Anna Palmer posted her first double-double (10 kills/13 digs) at Memphis and the third of her collegiate career. Palmer had two double-doubles as a freshman at Seattle University last season.
- Palmer recorded the sixth double-digit kills match of her career (5 at Seattle) and the seventh double-figures digs performance of her career (6 at Seattle).
- Hannah Flowers had the first double-double (16 kills/12 digs) of her career Friday. Her 12 digs were a career high. Her previous career best for digs was three in three matches last season.
- Hannah Flowers' 16 kills were one shy of tying her career high of 17. It was the 15th double-digit kills match of her career and her third this season.
- Flowers had three service aces in the match, giving her 16 for the season. She had only five aces in 2017.
- Kelsea Bivins had eight kills, 12 digs and three total blocks. It was the sixth double-digit digs match of her career.
- Kelsey Walter logged six total blocks in the win over Florida A&M. It was the second match of the season with five or more blocks. She had a career-high seven blocks against Arkansas State Aug. 25.

Set One
- The Tigers jumped out to a 6-2 lead on the strength of two kills from Kelsey Walter.
- Florida A&M battled back and knotted the score at 10-all with an 8-4 run.
- The Rattlers continued their spurt and charged out to a 17-13 advantage.
- Florida A&M held its lead and was within one point of taking the first set at 24-20.
- Memphis, though, responded with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 24-all.
- Sarah Marlatt (kill/ace) and Walter (2 kills) keyed the Memphis surge.
- With the score tied at 25-all, Molly Murrihy pushed the Tigers ahead with a kill and then ended the set with a service ace for the 27-25 win.
Set Two
- Memphis grabbed an early advantage and remained in the lead (15-14) until midway through the set.
- Florida A&M answered with a 5-0 spurt to take a 19-15 lead. The Rattlers did not trail the remainder of the set.
- Memphis, though, stayed within striking distance and tied the score twice at 24-all (Meredith Wallace/Walter block) and 25-all (Hannah Flowers kill).
- The Rattlers knocked down the last two points for the 27-25 set win.
Set Three
- The Tigers responded in strong fashion in the third set.
- After the set was five times in the first 14 points, Memphis slowly pulled away and never looked back.
- The Tigers' first run was a 9-4 spurt that gave them a 16-11 lead.
- Flowers had two kills, and Marlatt and Anna Palmer combined for a block and each added a kill in the run.
- From there, Memphis closed the set on a 9-3 surge for the 25-14 win.
- Kelsea Bivins had two kills and one block down the stretch.
Set Four
- Florida A&M remained close early and trailed only 9-8.
- That's when Memphis made its move and pulled away.
- Three Palmer kills and a Murrihy ace extended the Tigers' lead to 14-9.
- The Rattlers cut the lead to 15-13, but that was as close as they got the remainder of the set.
- Memphis used a 5-2 run to pull out to a 20-15 advantage.
- Flowers (2 kills) and Bivins (kill/block) powered the Tigers' run.
- Palmer then added three more kills to lead Memphis to the 25-17 set win.
