Hundreds in attendance for two-hour scrimmage at Billy J. Murphy Complex
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Despite the sweltering heat, Memphis Tiger fans flocked to the football Fan Fest and scrimmage at the Billy J. Murphy Complex on Saturday. The several hundred fans in attendance took part in the equipment sale, were treated to a fast-paced scrimmage and received autographs from coaches and players.
"This was like a game atmosphere. I think there were 800 people here surrounding a practice field. Awesome environment. It was great to see," Memphis head coach Mike Norvell said. "I have been asking for a lot of warm weather so that our guys could learn to respond to adversity. But what I liked was that I saw Tiger Nation respond to adversity. A little bit of heat out here and to have that many people out supporting us is incredible."
Fans were treated to an exciting two-hour scrimmage that featured more than 100 play from scrimmage.
"Both sides of the ball had some good plays and we got some good special teams work. I like where we are after eight practices. There is a lot of work to go this next week as we continue on in camp," Norvell said.
The Tigers will have a day off Sunday before getting back on the practice field Monday morning. The team will hit the road for Jackson on Wednesday to spend three days at the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus.
Fans will have another opportunity to see the team in preseason action on Saturday, August 18 at Lambuth Campus in Jackson. The scrimmage is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
Tickets for the 2018 season are on sale now at www.GoTigersGoTix.com or available by calling 901-678-2331. Fans can purchase season ticket packages for all seven Tigers home games or tickets to any of the five road games.
