Tigers men's, women's squads receive recognition for seventh-straight year.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field squads earned U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team awards for 2017-18, the organization announced Thursday. It is the seventh-consecutive season both teams received the national honor.

Memphis is one of three American Athletic Conference institutions to have both its men's and women's track and field programs earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades (Cincinnati, Tulsa). Overall, 220 women's programs and 141 men's programs nationally were honored for their academic accomplishments in the 2017-18 campaign.
Â
The Tigers men's program posted a 3.36 grade-point average (GPA), which tied for the highest among the four American Athletic Conference schools on the list. The Tigers men's 3.36 GPA was tied for 18th-highest among the 141 programs that received the accolade.
Â
The women's GPA was 3.37, which was third-best among the American Athletic Conference schools that received the recognition.
Â
Among state of Tennessee NCAA Division I institutions, Memphis was one of four schools to place its track and field teams on both USTFCCCA All-Academic Team lists (Belmont, Lipscomb, Tennessee). Chattanooga and Vanderbilt sponsor only women's teams, and both earned the USTFCCCA award.
Â
Earlier this year, the Memphis men's track and field squad received the American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The Tigers men's and women's track and field/cross country programs also combined to place 49 student-athletes on The American All-Academic Team that was announced in late June.
