Kimberley Smit Signs With Women’s Soccer
Apr 27, 2018 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team and head coach Brooks Monaghan have announced the signing of Kimberley Smit from The Netherlands Friday morning. Smit, a versatile defender, is the 11th signee this spring and will play immediately for the Tigers starting next fall.
Smit joins the signing class of Claire Abrey, Tanya Boychuk, Beatrice Currie, Caroline Duncan, Grace Duncan, Lydia Herring, Myah Jalal, Allie Rathbun, Lauren Schultz, and Maddie Stoks.
Kimberley Smit – Defender – Wassennar, The Netherlands
Smit started playing soccer on a boys' team when she was eight-years-old and continued to play with them at a high level until she was 17. At that point in her career, Smit was noted by the ADO The Hague where she has now played for the under 21 team at the Top-Class A level for the last two years.
She is a versatile defender that thrives on 1-v-1 situations. A very technical player, Smit has the ability to ignite the offense with an excellent first pass.
Smit chose the University of Memphis because playing college soccer in the United States was always a dream of hers. At the UofM, not only will she have the opportunity to excel in the classroom, but also on the field of competition.
Coach Monaghan on Smit
I think it's great that we are adding a player this late with Kimberley's talent and abilities. She's very versatile as she can play either as a center back or an outside back. We have high expectations for her to come in and not only give us depth on the back line, but to make us better.
