Tigers move into seventh place after Day 2 of AAC Championship

Memphis shoots 3-over 287, second-best score of second round
PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Rodi Vlasveld fired a 1-under 70 and Borja Martin shot even-par 71 to lead the University of Memphis during second-round play Monday in the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater.
The Tigers shot 3-over 287, the second-best total of the day, to move into seventh place, two shots behind East Carolina and Temple and four shots behind fourth-place Cincinnati. No. 21 USF pulled away from the field Monday by shooting 5-under 279 for 563, 19 strokes better than second-place SMU. USF, which has led 11 consecutive rounds in the Championship dating to 2015, will be attempting to capture its fourth straight title.
Final round play in the AAC Championship will be Tuesday on the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. The champion earns the league's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
Individually, USF's Claudio Correa shot 4-under 67 to take the second-round lead at 138. Teammate Cristian DiMarco posted a 69 for 140 to tie Cincinnati's Davis Baxter for second place.
The Tigers were led by Martin, who opened with a 71 on Sunday. Brad Bawden finished at 1-over 72 and Chase Harris had a 74. Martin, who held a share of the lead during the second round, is the highest-placing freshman after 36 holes.
Tuesday's final round of the Championship can be followed via Golfstat.com. Also, the American Digital Network will provide coverage of the final round beginning at 10:30 a.m.
