Herndon is the sixth signee for the 2018-19 season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Head coach Melissa McFerrin and the University of Memphis women's basketball team has announced the addition of Gazmyne Herndon Wednesday morning. Herndon is a nationally-ranked 5-8 shooting guard from Walters State Community College.
Herndon is the sixth signee this season, joining Malainna White, Camille Buckhanon, Chioma Nnamani, and Jamirah Shutes from the early signing period and Kiana Coomber from the late signing period.
"We approached the Late Signing Period with a clear goal of adding impactful perimeter players with junior college experience," said McFerrin. "Kiana and now Gazmyne's signings help us meet those needs on the roster. Today's signing makes me even more eager for 2018-19!"

Herndon, a native of Memphis, Tenn. and Douglass High School, joins the Tigers from Walters State Community College where she ranked No. 5 in the country this past season in assists. In two years with Walters State, Herndon has not only ranked herself third all-time in assists, but she has become the 11th best shooting guard in the JUCO rankings per the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
In the first game of the NJCAA National Tournament this past season, Herndon led her team to an 80-43 victory with a 17-point, 11-rebound, and 10-assist triple-double. She finished this past season averaging 7.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.
While at Walters State, Herndon was selected to participate in the 2017 NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend. As a freshman, Herndon helped lead Walter's State to its sixth-straight NJCAA Women's Basketball National Tournament and a Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Coach McFerrin on Herndon:
"Memphis is nationally recognized as a basketball city and we are proud to bring another native Memphian home in Gazmyne Herndon. Gazmyne's impact will be felt on both ends of the floor as she takes great pride in being a tough, on-ball defender as well as a creator for herself and others on offense. She maximized her two years at Walters State and won multiple championships. We are eager to add her maturity and production to our program."
