ITHICA, N.Y. – Two days yielded two wins for the Memphis men's tennis team, as the Tigers downed Penn State Saturday afternoon by a final of 4-1.
Much like the previous match, the Tigers (4-2) again wasted no time in doubles play. Tiger tandem Ryan Peniston and Andrew Watson took Court 1, while duo Kai Lemke and Matt Story won the No. 2 spot by identical 6-3 scores to give Memphis the 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Watson notched his second-straight win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to give Memphis a 2-0 lead.
The Nittany Lions (3-3) rallied with a win on Court 4, but the momentum was silenced when Lemke earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position.
For the second time in as many days, Peniston provided the match-clinching win for the Tigers. The senior picked up his fifth win of the spring with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the top spot.
Memphis will remain on the road for its next set of matches. The Tigers travel to face Michigan State and Michigan next weekend.
