Tigers sweep Michigan State to start weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Memphis men's tennis continued its hot streak with a 7-0 sweep against Michigan State to open the weekend.
The Tigers (5-2) recorded their third consecutive win and improved their record to 9-0 all-time against the Spartans (4-7).
The Tigers claimed the opening doubles point with wins at the top two spots. Tiger duo Kai Lemke and Matt Story turned in a 6-1 win on court 2 before Michigan State took court 3 to even the point. Senior tandem Andrew Watson and Ryan Peniston provided the Tigers a 1-0 match lead with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position.
Memphis made quick work in singles play as the Tigers won the opening set on all six courts. Watson was the first to finish with a 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 2. Lemke quickly followed with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph on court 3 to win his third-straight decision in singles play.
The Tigers' No. 61-ranked Peniston provided his third consecutive match-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-3 win to improve his singles record to 6-1 and secure the Tiger victory.
Pallares battled through a third-set tiebreak on court 6 for his third singles win of the year, downing Billy Shisler 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5), while Rauch continued his strong start to the spring with a 7-5, 7-6 win on court 4.
Chris Patzanovsky completed the sweep with a third-set tiebreak win. The junior grabbed his third win of the year with a 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) final.
Memphis will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., next and return to the court on Sunday at 10 a.m. against the No. 13 Michigan Wolverines.
