Tigers Continue Home Stand Against New Orleans Tuesday

Alana Davis enters Tuesday's contest ranked fourth nationally in offensive rebounds
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis continues its December home-stand this Tuesday as the Tigers welcome the Privateers of New Orleans to the Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Tigers enter the week after dropping a hard-fought battle to Toledo over the weekend. Jamirah Shutes led the team in points after missing a pair of games to illness, scoring 15 in her return. Also making an impact for the home team was Alana Davis, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Shutes continues to pace the Tigers in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per contest. Davis is right behind her, scoring 13.1 points per game, and leads the team on the glass, pulling down 9.9 rebounds per game. Davis' rebounding totals rank third in The American. Nationally, Davis ranks fourth in the nation averaging 5.6 offensive rebounds per game.

Davis sits two rebounds shy of reaching the 200-rebound mark for her career. As a true freshman last season, Davis snagged 129 total rebounds. Junior guard Taylor Barnes is also nearing a career milestone, as she needs just one more assist to hit the 200-assist total in her career. The Memphis, Tenn., native is averaging a career-high 3.9 assists per game this season.

New Orleans comes to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse after dropping its last game on Saturday against Rice. Traya Bruce led the way with 16 points.

Shania Woods leads the Privateers in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game. Woods also leads the team in rebounds, snaring 7.8 per contest.

The Privateers are led by head coach Keeshawn Davenport. Davenport is now in her eighth season at her alma mater, and was head coach when New Orleans joined the Southland Conference in 2013.

New Orleans and Memphis have squared off six times in the past, UNO claiming a 4-2 advantage. The Tigers, however, have won the last two meetings, the most recent of which happened on Feb. 12, 1996. All-time, Memphis is 1-1 at home against the Privateers.
