Tigers fall to Coastal Carolina in Sunday matchup
Nov 25, 2018 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers dropped their second matchup of the Coastal Carolina Tournament, falling to the hosting Chanticleers 90-71 on Sunday.
Four Tigers scored in double-figures, led by Gazmyne Herndon's 19. Herndon also had six assists and two blocks.
Memphis zipped out in the early minutes of the game, getting its hands on a 12-3 run, capitalized by three-pointers by Taylor Barnes and Kiana Coomber. Jada Stinson added a pair from deep in the quarter as well. The trio would combine for seven triples in the game.
The Chanticleers fought back, however, and the first quarter ended 20-19 in favor of Memphis.
The game continued to be neck-and-neck through the first half, and early offense in the second quarter kept the Tigers in the hunt. Turnovers, however, would be Memphis' undoing in the half, as it trailed 44-36 at the midway point.
Entering the second half, the battle remained close to even, but Coastal Carolina was able to keep its distance. Koomber had five of her 14 points in the quarter, including a layup at the buzzer.
The fourth quarter saw Coastal pull away, extending its lead into double figures. Collectively, the Tigers hit nine three-pointers, including a career-high two from Herndon.
Memphis returns home for the month of December, starting with a home game against Toledo. Game-time against the Rockets is scheduled for December 1, starting at 11 a.m.
