No. 18/24 Tigers return to action with league road trip

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a week off, No. 18/24 Memphis women's soccer continues league play with its first AAC road trip of the season. The Tigers are set to face Houston on Thursday before capping the weekend against SMU on Sunday. Both SMU and Houston sit atop the league standings with nine and seven points, respectively.

Five Things to Know About Memphis
- Memphis opened league play with a pair of wins against Cincinnati and ECU. After shutting out the Bearcats 5-0 on Sept. 20, the Tigers collected their second overtime victory of the season against the Pirates on Sept. 23.
- The Tigers enter the week riding an eight-game winning streak, which is the third-longest in program history and most consecutive wins since 2011.
- Defensively, the Tigers top the nation in shutout percentage (.818). In goal, sophomore Elizabeth Moberg's nine shutouts this season also lead the country.
- Offensively, Memphis ranks fourth nationally in scoring offense with 2.82 goals per contest. The Tigers are also ninth in the country with 31 total goals.
- Memphis leads the all-time series against Houston by a 12-7-1 mark. The Tigers have won six consecutive matchups against the Cougars and the last six meetings in Houston. The Tigers also hold a 9-2-3 advantage against SMU, but are in search of their first win against the Mustangs since 2016.
A Look at Houston
Houston began league play having earned a result in three of their first four AAC matchups. Last weekend, the Cougars claimed a 3-2 double-overtime win against ECU on Thursday and collected a 1-1 draw against Cincinnati on Sunday.
Junior Desiree Bowen leads the team with six goals, while sophomore Jazmin Grant has added four scores.
In goal, Samantha Cude and Rachel Estopare have split time between the posts. Cude has logged 30 saves against 11 goals allowed, while Estopare has stopped 33 shots against 10 goals allowed. Both keepers have registered a 3-3-1 ledger this season.
A Look at SMU
SMU began league play with three consecutive wins before dropping its weekend finale last week. After downing Cincinnati on Thursday, the Mustangs fell 2-1 against ECU on Sunday.
Junior Allie Thornton and freshmen Courtney Sebazco and Celiana Torres lead the Mustangs' offensive attack with seven, six and five goals, respectively. SMU is also tied for second in the league in total goals with 27, only trailing Memphis.
Between the pipes, senior Catie Brown has logged the most minutes, making 37 saves and registering a .860 save percentage.
