Tigers Resume Conference Play Against SMU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's soccer returns home after a 0-0-2 road trip as it reenters conference play against SMU. Match time on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Looking at Memphis
The Tigers face an opponent at home after a pair of road matches that both ended in draws. Tuesday's match against UCA saw two Tigers score their first goals of the season. Trailing 1-0, Memphis responded with an equalizer from Alexandros Ierides just 22 seconds later. Brantley Bice then added his first goal of the season, launching a shot in the 42nd minute that gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead going into half time.
Seven Memphis players have scored a goal this season, including four that have scored multiple times. Peyton McKnatt, David Zalzman, and Chris Mikus lead the team with three goals apiece. Both Tiger goalkeepers saw time between the posts against UCA, and they both put in solid outings. Tyler Hofmann recorded four saves in his 45 minutes before being subbed out at half. Parker Lackland followed up with a season-high six saves, including a batted down PK from Central Arkansas that would have given the Bears a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers are led by head coach Richard Mulrooney, now in his fifth season. He leads a team that is currently tied for fourth in the conference standings with a 1-1-1 record in league play.
The SMU Mustangs
The visiting Mustangs will play in Memphis after canceling its midweek game against Omaha. SMU's last match was a 1-1 draw against conference opponent USF. Junior forward Garrett McLaughlin scored the match's opening goal in the third minute of the match, his third goal of the season.
Leading the Mustangs in points is senior Emil Cuello. The midfielder has logged three goals and a league-leading six assists. In the net, Grant Makela has registered 32 saves and only allowed nine goals in 10 matches.
Head coach Kevin Hudson is now in his fourth season as head coach of SMU. Hudson has been with the team for 10 years, previously holding roles of assistant coach and associate head coach.
