CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Memphis women's basketball team fell Sunday afternoon on the road to Cincinnati by a score of 64-53 at Saint Ursula Academy. The Tigers overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half but was unable to overcome a second half Cincinnati run. Memphis falls to 7-12 overall and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play.
How It Happened
After Memphis scored the first basket of the contest, Cincinnati rattled off a 7-0 run to take control of the first quarter. The Bearcats built as much as a 12-point lead with 35 seconds left in the first before Elmore knocked down her second of many jumpers Sunday afternoon with 11 seconds on the clock.
That jumper ignited a 14-4 run by Memphis to tie the game up at 24-24 with 4:20 left before halftime. The teams proceeded to exchange baskets for the remainder of the first half to see their way to a 35-all tie at the intermission.
Although the defense held Cincinnati to just 12 points in the third quarter, the offense struggled to find the basket throughout the latter part of the quarter and the Bearcats held a four-point advantage with 10 minutes to play.
Cincinnati opened the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run to build another double-digit over the Tigers. Cheyenne Creighton's free throw with 3:39 left in the game cut the Bearcat lead down to eight and that proved to be the closest Memphis could come.
Turning Point
Cincinnati held Memphis to just one field goal in the final half of the third quarter and proceeded to open the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run to go up by double-digits. Memphis was unable to overcome the double-digit deficit and only cut the Cincinnati lead down to eight with less than four minutes to play.

I thought our kids played really hard until fatigue set in late. When fatigue set in, we made some mental mistakes. We're not going to give up. That's not what competitors do.
