Women’s Soccer Heads West For Pacific Northwest Road Trip

Memphis takes on Idaho Friday evening before facing Gonzaga Sunday afternoon
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 23 University of Memphis women's soccer team hits the road this weekend for a trip to the Pacific Northwest. The Tigers will play the University of Idaho on Friday at 8 p.m. before heading to Spokane, Wash. to face Gonzaga on Sunday. The Gonzaga match is slated for a 3 p.m. kick-off.

Five Things To Know About Memphis
- Despite coming off of a hard fought, 1-0 setback to Ole Miss last Sunday, the Tigers remain ranked in the TopDrawerSoccer poll at No. 23. Memphis is also receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, coming in at No. 28 on the list, which is the highest ranking this season in the poll.
- Memphis most recently competed against Gonzaga and Idaho in 2015 and won both matches. Marie Levasseuer and Elizabeth Woerner each scored against Idaho two years ago while Sydney Kingston, Olivia Gauthier, and Levasseur tallied assists. Against Gonzaga, Catherine Levasseur registered an assist on Valerie Sanderson's game-winning goal in overtime.
- The Tigers rank at the top of the American Athletic Conference in many categories of which some of those categories rank in the nation's top 25 as well. With 2.71 goals per match, the Tigers rank 12th in the NCAA and first in the AAC. Other top 25 categories include goals-against average, points per game, save percentage, shots on goal per game, total goals, total points, and won-lost-tied percentage.
- Goalkeeper Rachel Ashworth Shepard ranks 14th in the nation with four shutouts to-date. She also is 23rd in the NCAA in save percentage and 22nd in goals against average.
- Memphis' dynamic offense has produced eight different goal scorers this season and four of those players have at least two goals. With a goal in the win over Rice, Woerner now leads the team with five goals. Marie Levasseur and Mikayla Morton each have four. Stasia Mallin, who did not record a point during her freshman campaign in 2016, leads the Tigers with four assists in 2017.
A Look At Idaho
Idaho enters Friday's match with a 2-4-1 record on the season. The Vandals last game was a 1-0 setback at Oregon. Idaho had trouble getting through the Oregon defense and finding shots, being outshot 12-6 on the night. The Vandals have struggled to find goals in 2017, having scored just five goals this year.
Senior forward Olivia Baggerly leads the team with 22 shots for the season. Goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave has logged 650 total minutes of play, recording full time in each match so far this season. She has 24 saves through seven matches, but has allowed 11 goals.
A Look At Gonzaga
The Bulldogs of Gonzaga have a home match against Farleigh Dickinson before Sunday's contest and enter the weekend sitting at 5-1-1. Their lone loss of the season was a 2-1 road match defeat at Eastern Washington. Eastern Washington scored in the first 15 minutes, before a penalty kick in the 67th minute increased the lead to 2-0. Gonzaga scored in the 83rd minute, but it was too little, too late.
Redshirt sophomore India Jencks leads the Bulldogs in scoring so far this season, having five goals to her name. Junior Jodi Ulkekul and sophomore Sophia Viviano are tied for first on the team with three assists apiece. Goalkeeper Isabel Jones has started all seven of the matches, playing 613 minutes. Drew Williams has also contributed in the net, playing 36 minutes between two matches.
