Women’s Tennis Falls 4-1 at American Championships

Marta Morga gets a win at the conference quarterfinals.
LAKE NONA, Fla. – Senior Marta Morga won her match at three singles, but the Memphis women's tennis team (11-8) saw its 2017 season come to an end in the quarterfinal round of the American Athletic Conference Championships with a 4-1 loss to Cincinnati, Thursday.
Cincinnati took the early lead with wins at one and two doubles. Caroline Morton and Harley Hutchison stretched the lead to 3-0 when Morga got Memphis on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-4 win at three singles in her final collegiate match.
Cincinnati closed out the win and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win at two singles. With the win, Cincinnati advanced to a Friday semifinal match against top-seed Tulsa.
The match completes the college careers of Morga and Gabrielle Paul for the Tigers. Redshirt junior Anki Wind missed the final matches of the regular season and the conference tournament due to surgery, but returns next year as one of two seniors for Memphis. She and Sohn will both be returning with extensive experience at one singles for the Tigers.
