BLUFFTON, S.C. - Behind an eighth-place finish from senior Sydney Chung, the Memphis Tigers placed ninth overall at the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University at the Colleton River - Pete Dye Course.
The Tigers carded a three-round score of 914, just behind Miami (Ohio) (910) and Cleveland State (911) on the par-72, 7,169-yard course.
JC Campbell led the Tigers on the final day with a final-round 74, giving him 226 strokes over the three rounds, tying for 18th in the field. Campbell started strong with a par and birdie over his first two holes, and remained at even par or better for the first 16 holes of the round.
Campbell followed his birdie with four consecutive pars, before a bogey on the par-four seventh hole pushed him back to even par. He dropped back under par with a birdie on the par-four ninth hole; however, he bogeyed the first hole after the turn to drop back to even par.
The next six holes were all pars for the sophomore, before he closed the tournament with back-to-back bogeys to finish the day two strokes over par.
Colin Dubnik shot a 76 on the second day, the second-best score for the squad on the day. He opened strong with two pars; however, a double bogey on the third hole and a bogey on the fifth put him at three strokes over par through the first five holes. From there, he rattled off 12 consecutive pars to remain at three strokes over par until a bogey on the 18th hole ended his par streak. His three-round score of 234 is tied for 45th in the field.
Kevin Lee carded a third-round 79, giving him a three-round score of 232, which tied for 39th in the field. Lee totaled 11 pars and seven bogeys over his 18 holes, ending at seven strokes over par for the round, and 16 strokes over par for the tournament.
Chung ended the tournament with a nearly even ratio of pars to bogeys, with 10 pars and eight bogeys, carding a weekend-high total of 80; however, was still able to maintain a top-10 finish for the tournament with a 222 over the three rounds, six strokes over par for the three rounds.
Mikko Kauniskangas was the fifth golfer for the Tigers on the day, as he shot an 11-over 83 for the third round, including nine pars on the day.
Playing as an individual for the tournament, Chase Harris carded a final-round 74 - two strokes over par - and finished tied for 26th overall in the tournament. Starting on the 10th hole, he got off to a quick start with two birdies and four pars over his first six holes, standing two strokes under par; however, he closed his front nine with a bogey, par, and bogey to make the turn at even par. The back nine started with two consecutive pars, before a double bogey and a bogey put him at three strokes over par. He quickly rebounded with a birdie on the par-four fifth hole, and closed the day with four straight pars to finish with the 74.
