PALM CITY, Fla. - Facing a field of 10 teams ranked inside of the top-50 in the GolfStat National rankings, the Memphis Tigers took 14th overall at the Valspar Collegiate, hosted at the Floridian Golf Course.
On the 7,114-yard, par 71 course, Memphis carded a final-round 297, its best score of the tournament.
Chase Harris led the team on the final day with a one-over 71 on the final day, finishing in a tie for 60th in the strong field. He finished the event overall tied with Eithel MeGowen and JC Campbell tied for the team lead in the tournament at +14, tied for 56th overall. Harris and Sydney Chung finished tied for 60th at +15, while Colin Dubnik finished +22, and 71st overall.
Harris, starting on the 10th hole for the day, opened strong with two birdies and six pars through the first six holes, before closing his front nine with a bogey heading into the turn.
On the back nine he started with four consecutive pars, before recording a birdie on two of three holes to again stand two strokes under par. He stumbled at the end, closing his round with a bogey and a double-bogey to finish the round with a 72 (+1).
Dubnik, a freshman from Rochester, New York, started slowly with a bogey on his opening hole; however, birdies on his fourth and sixth holes dropped him to a stroke under par. A bogey at the turn closed his sub-par standing, and put him at even par at the turn.Â
A birdie on his third hole after the turn, and another on the par-five seventh hole put him at one stroke under par, but a triple-bogey 18th hole quickly transformed his -1 to a +2, ending the day with a 73.
Campbell shot a 75 on the final day, with two bogeys in his first three holes; however, rebounded with a birdie on his fifth hole, before a bogey heading into the turn pushed him to two strokes over.
He opened his back nine with back-to-back bogeys, but came back quickly with a stretch of three birdies over four holes to drop his score back to one shot over par. Campbell was unable to close out the round with the same momentum, as he finished with a double-bogey and bogey to finish the day with a +4, 75.
McGowen started out +3 after the first two holes, but recovered nicely with a birdie on the par-three 12th hole. Bogeys on the sixth and ninth holes pushed him to four strokes over after nine holes.
He recorded a birdie, and three bogeys on his back nine, finishing the final nine holes at +2, and the round with a +6, 77.
Chung had a roller-coaster final round with three birdies, eight pars, four bogeys, and three double-bogeys, finishing the tournament with a seven-over 78.
The Tigers return to action on April 3 and 4 when the team travels to West Point, Mississippi to take part in the Old Waverly Collegiate at the Old Waverly Golf Club.
