Women’s basketball looks to win third-straight against Lady Techsters

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team will look to win its third-straight match-up against Louisiana Tech Thursday evening on the road in Ruston, La. Overall, the Tigers are sitting at 1-1 while Louisiana Tech is 2-0 on the young season.

Memphis enters into the Louisiana Tech match-up with a 1-1 overall record. The Tigers won a thrilling home opener against Tennessee State before dropping its first road game to Little Rock last Sunday.

With a double-double in the home opener and a career-high 28 points against Little Rock, senior forward Cheyenne Creighton was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll Monday morning. Creighton leads the Tigers this season with 24.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. She is shooting over 50 percent from the floor.

Brea Elmore and Taylor Barnes are also averaging in double-digits for the Tigers. Barnes leads the team in three-point shooting at 57.1 percent (4-for-7) and against Tennessee State in the home opener, she tallied a career-high eight assists.

As a team, the Tigers are shooting well from long range. In two games this season, the Tigers are shooting 46.2 percent from beyond the arc with six made three's per contest. Currently that mark leads the American Athletic Conference.

A Look At Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech enters into the game with a 2-0 record with wins against Grambling State and LSU-Alexandria under its belt. The Lady Techsters have locked down on defense, holding opponents to under 30 percent from the floor. Louisiana Tech also ranks No. 19 in the country in rebounding at plus 20.5 rebounds per game.

Kierra Anthony and Alexus Malone lead the Lady Techsters in scoring so far with 18.0 and 12.5 points, respectively. Freshman Amber Dixon leads the team in assists with 13 and just two turnovers.

The Lady Techsters are under the direction of co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr. The two are in their second season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech program. Brooke Stoehr was a member of the Lady Techsters squad from 1998-2002.

Series History With Louisiana Tech
Last season, Memphis defeated Louisiana Tech by a score of 56-54 to extend its winning streak to two against the perennial powerhouse. Although the overall record tips in favor of the Lady Techsters all-time, Memphis has history against Louisiana Tech.

In 1984, the Tigers knocked off then-No. 1 Louisiana Tech in Memphis by a score of 72-69. To date, it has proven to be the lone time Memphis has knocked off a No. 1 team.

Overall, Louisiana Tech is 9-4 against Memphis including 6-1 at home. Memphis is 3-3 against the Lady Techsters at home.
