Tigers Fall To Cincinnati Saturday Afternoon

Barnes, Creighton, Elmore all score in double-digits in the setback to the Bearcats.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team fell at home Saturday afternoon to Cincinnati by a score of 66-59. Memphis falls to 8-9 on the year and 1-3 in American Athletic Conference play. Three players scored in double-figures for the Tigers, led by Brea Elmore's 16.

How It Happened
Cincinnati took an early lead over Memphis, but a 7-3 run capped by Taylor Barnes' first three-pointer of the game tied up the game at 13-13 with 1:58 remaining in the first. There were two more ties in the next two minutes as the teams finished the first 10 minutes of action tied at 17-17.

The Bearcats then opened the second quarter on another run, which was quickly answered by a pair of three-pointers by Barnes and Taylor Williams. Cincinnati took the lead over one more time in the second quarter and Memphis went into the intermission down two, 30-28.

After three quarters of play, the Bearcats continued to lead the Tigers by two, 46-44. That wasn't before, however, Cincinnati going on an 8-2 run and creating an eight-point deficit for Memphis. A 6-0 run in the middle of the quarter ignited by Brea Elmore tied up the game at 44-44 with 48 seconds to play in the third.

Memphis went on to build its largest lead of the afternoon, 54-49, with 4:38 remaining in the game. After the final media timeout of the game, however, Cincinnati produced a 12-0 run to take over the lead for the final time from the Tigers.
