Pryke Sets School Record In Women's Javelin Saturday

Tigers freshman gets the record in only her third collegiate outdoor meet.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – University of Memphis freshman Ashley Pryke set the school record in the women's javelin to lead the Tigers at the 2016 Southeast Missouri Joey Haines Invitational Saturday.
Overall, the Memphis men's and women's teams combined to record 17 top-three finishes, including three first-place performances. Saturday's meet was scored team-wise, and the Tigers men's and women's squads posted top-five finishes. The Memphis men were second with 110.5 points, and the Tigers women placed fourth with 82 points.
Pryke, in only her third collegiate outdoor meet, won the women's javelin with a school-record throw of 160-10 (49.03m). Pryke broke the previous mark of 157-4 (47.97m) set by teammate Martine Bye last season. Jasmine Wilson placed second behind Pryke in the javelin with a 134-8 mark (41.04m).
For the second-straight week, Sydney Wright recorded a top-two finish in the long jump, placing first in the event Saturday. Wright's jump of 19-11.5 (6.08m) is just under four inches shy of the school record.
On the men's side, the Tigers 4x400 meter relay of Antaun Andrews, Juan Paul Green, Jason Kimmet and Naaman Norment was the lone first-place performance. The relay placed first in a time of 3:18.37.
The Tigers men's squad had five second-place performances from Green in the 400 meters, Aaron Willett in the 400-meter hurdles, Rafael Vallery in the discus, Michael Criticos in the javelin and the 4x100 meter relay team.
Memphis returns to action next weekend at the Auburn University Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., Apr. 8-9.
