Track And Field To Compete In Auburn War Eagle Invite This Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a week off from competition, the University of Memphis track and field squads make a return trip to Auburn, Ala., for a second-consecutive meet on The Plains this weekend. This time, the Tigers are competing in Auburn's War Eagle Invitational.
This weekend's meet is the second of two for Memphis this month. The Memphis men's and women's teams also traveled to Auburn, Ala., Apr. 8-9 for the Tiger Track Classic.
The Auburn War Eagle Invitational starts Friday, Apr. 22 at 2 p.m. (CT) and concludes with the day's final event – the men's 5000 meter run – at 7:55 p.m. (CT). The action resumes Saturday, Apr. 23 at 10:30 a.m. (CT), and the meet wraps up around 5:45 p.m. (CT).
The two-day event is set for the Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn University campus. Joining Memphis and host Auburn at this weekend's meet are: Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State (women's team only), Middle Tennessee, Samford, South Alabama, Syracuse, Troy and Virginia Tech.
For the Tigers, this weekend's meet begins the stretch run toward the postseason. The War Eagle Invitational is one of Memphis' final two meets before the American Athletic Conference Championships in Orlando, Fla., May 12-15. The Tigers' final competition prior to the league championships meet is their own Memphis Invitational Apr. 30.
In their earlier trip to Auburn this month, the Tigers posted 10 top-six performances at the Apr. 8-9 Tiger Track Classic.
Sophomore Michael Criticos led the Memphis charge with a first-place finish in the men's javelin. Junior Luke Vaughn had two top-six performances in the men's discus (4th) and men's shot put (5th), while freshman Davon DeMoss was fifth in the 100 meters.
Leading the way for the Tigers women's squad were Dorina Baiker and Carolina Carmichael with second-place finishes in the pole vault. Chardae Greenlee placed third in the triple jump, and Sydney Wright was fourth in the long jump.
