Men's Golf Returns to Action in Nashville Event

Tigers look to build on strong previous event
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After competing in a tournament in which the 15 teams in the field were all ranked inside of the GolfStat Top-50, the Tigers return to action on Saturday morning and will face another strong field at the first round of Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt University.

Memphis returns to the event in which it won in 2010 shooting a 10-under par 842 over the three rounds. That same season Jack Belote took home the individual title with an eight-under 205.
Memphis will open the tournament with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, playing alongside SMU and UAB. The Tigers will be using the team of Lars van Meijel (starting on the fourth hole), Thomas Perrot (fifth hole), Eithel McGowen (first group off of the sixth hole), Taylor McCullum (second group off of the sixth hole), and Sydney Chung (seventh hole).
van Meijel was the team's top finisher two weeks ago, shooting a four-over par total score, placing him 19th in Florida. He is averaging a team-best 71.4 strokes per round this season, including averaging a 71 in both the first and second rounds. He is the only player on the squad this season to have his aggregate score remain below par at eight strokes under par.
Perrot, who had his highest aggregate score since his sophomore season, remains in the top-50 nationally in the GolfStat cup, and averages 72.3 strokes per round during the 2015-16 season. His 70.8 opening round scoring average remains best on the team, and his eight-over-par aggregate score is second-best on the squad.
McGowen was the model of consistencey for the Tigers in the last event at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. The junior, Lima, Peru, native shot scores of 74, 76, and 75 over the three rounds, placing 53rd in the loaded field and second on the team.
McCullum, a sophomore from Hoover, Alabama, is averaging 74.5 strokes per round during the 2015-16 season and has two top-20 finishes for the year. Chung, a junior from Jackson, Tennessee who averaged 75.2 strokes per round during the fall is competing in his first event of the spring season.
