Shaq Goodwin Named First Team All-Conference

Dedric Lawson earns Second Team Honor
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis senior Shaq Goodwin has been named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team, while freshman Dedric Lawson was named to the Second Team and to the All-Rookie Team. The two are one of three sets of teammates named to the All-Conference teams, announced by the Conference office on Tuesday morning.
In AAC games, Goodwin led the conference in scoring at 17.2 points per game, and ranked second during the same span, averaging 1.8 blocked shots per contest.Ā
Over the course of the entire 31-game regular season, Goodwin ranks seventh in the AAC in scoring, seventh in rebounding, and second in blocked shots. The Atlanta native averages 15.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while blocking 59 shots and adding 31 steals. He has scored in double-figures 21 times this season including a career-high 35 points against UCF on January 26. He set an American Athletic Conference record in the game with 15 made field goals, and his point total from the game stand as the fifth-highest single-game mark in AAC history.Ā
Lawson, in addition to being named to the All-Conference Second Team, was a unanimous pick to the All-Rookie Team. Lawson leads Memphis in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game, while he leads the Tigers and the entire American Athletic Conference in rebounding, pulling down 9.2 boards per game. He also stands third in the league in blocked shots (53), and ninth in steals.
His 15 double-doubles this season stand tied for the second-most in a season by a freshman in school history. He has scored in double-figures 23 times this season, and scored a career-high 28 points on December 5 against Southeast Missouri State.Ā
The Tigers open play in the American Athletic Conference on Friday, March 11, when the team faces off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in an 8 p.m. CT tip-off in Orlando, Florida.
