MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team will play its final regular season road matches this week, playing at No. 64 ranked Middle Tennessee, Friday, at 2 p.m. Memphis will stay in Murfreesboro to face VCU in a neutral site match, Saturday, at 11 a.m.
Memphis, ranked No. 35 in the latest college tennis rankings, has won five of its last six matches and is looking to build some momentum with the end of the regular season looming. Memphis will close its home stand against No. 17 ranked USF, the two-time defending conference champs in the American. Like USF did two years ago, the Bulls are coming to Memphis to close the regular season and then will stay in town to prepare for the American Athletic Conference tournament that is being hosted by Memphis April 21-24th at MUS.
Middle Tennessee is 14-5 on the season and is 11-4 when playing at home. Memphis and Middle Tennessee have had just four common opponents this season. Both defeated Chattanooga, Murray State and Louisville and Memphis won at Vanderbilt, 5-2, while Middle Tennessee lost 6-1 to the Commodores in a home match.
VCU is 14-6 on the season and is coming off a 1-2 week at the USF tournament last weekend. The Rams defeated Florida Atlantic, but lost to host USF, 4-1, and lost 4-3 to North Florida, now guided by former Tiger Mark Finnegan.
