Tigers Climb to 13th in Powerful Event

Lars van Meijel leads Tigers with 18th place Finish
PALM CITY, Fla. – After a split day in which Memphis shot a blistering first-round score of 289 followed by a 316, the Tigers evened out the scoring with a third-round 295, pushing Memphis into 13th place in the loaded field.
Eighth Ranked Texas took home the team title in the event with a three-round score of 855 (283, 287, 285), with 22nd ranked LSU finishing second with an 860 (286, 295, 279). Texas A&M, ranked 29th, and Oklahoma State, ranked 13th, tied for third place, each shooting an 871. 18th ranked South Carolina and third ranked Illinois rounded out the top five, as each shot a three-round score of 874.
Memphis' overall tournament total of 900 on the 6,999-yard, par-71 course was ahead of 45th ranked Georgia Tech (906) and seventh ranked Florida (909), and just behind Kent State (890) and fifth ranked Florida State (882).
The tournament, played at the Floridian Golf Course, had each team in the field ranked inside of the top-50 in the Golfstat National Rankings.
Lars van Meijel led the Tigers with a three-round score of 217, shooting a first-round 68, a second-round 78, and a third-round 71. The junior finished the tournament tied for 18th place in the strong field.
Eithel McGowen placed 53rd overall, shooting evenly through the three rounds with scores of 74, 76, and 75. J.C. Campbell placed 67th shooting rounds of 74, 81, and 77 for a three-round total of 232.
Thomas Perrot sandwiched strong rounds of 73 (first round) and 74 (third round) with a second-round 87, giving him a three-round total of 234, placing him 71st in the field. Taylor McCullum rounded out the Tigers in the field with rounds of 81, 81, and 75 – a three-round total of 237, placing him in a tie for 76th.
Memphis returns to action on April 2, when the team travels north to Franklin, Tennessee, to compete in the Vanderbilt Mason Rudolph Collegiate, hosted at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
