Women’s Tennis Home Saturday Against Iowa State
Mar 11, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Match will be noon if outdoors and 1 p.m. if moved indoors
MEMPHIS – The last time the University of Memphis women's tennis team played at home, the calendar had barely flipped to February and Memphis was looking at its first home match without all-conference honoree Anki Wind. On Saturday, Memphis will welcome Iowa State (9-2) for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. If the match can be played outside, the match will begin at noon, if it is moved indoors at The Racquet Club of Memphis, it will begin at 1 p.m.
Memphis is looking to retire a losing streak that dates back to a 4-2 loss to Denver, also at home. Since that match, Memphis has faced six ranked opponents, including three in road matches. The Saturday contest will be an opportunity to retire that losing streak, but will also be Memphis' lone match in the next 13 days, as the Tigers will not play another match until Mar. 25th when VCU comes to town.
Freshman Janina Berres is carrying a two-match winning streak in singles play in to the Saturday afternoon matchup against Iowa State. She has also teamed with Hanna Sohn and is carrying a three-match winning streak, all coming at one doubles, as the Tigers continue non-conference play.
Memphis has eight regular season matches remaining before the Tigers will host the American Athletic Conference tournament at MUS Apr. 20-24th.
Admission to all Memphis tennis home matches is free.
