Women’s Tennis Falls to Visiting Iowa State, 4-1

Hughes wins match at two singles for the Tigers' point.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team got a singles win from senior Kathryn Hughes at number two and forced third sets at four and five singles, but could not upend visiting Iowa State (10-2) in a 4-1 loss Saturday.
Iowa State took the early lead with 6-3 wins at one and three doubles, but Hughes tied the match at 1-1 with her 6-2, 6-2 win at number two.
But Iowa State retook the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at three singles, which allowed the Tigers at four and five singles to step on the court to start their respective matches. That lead pushed to 3-1 with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 and the two Tigers in four and five, Janina Berres and Gabrielle Paul, were both heading to third sets.
The loss at one opened a court for the match at number six to come on while Berres and Paul were at work in their second sets and Annabella Bonadonna sealed the win for Iowa State with a 6-4, 6-3 win at six.
Memphis will be back in action on Mar. 25th against visiting VCU at noon. The Tigers will also host Middle Tennessee on Mar. 27th at 9 a.m. at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
