Memphis Baseball Debuts in 2015 National Rankings
Apr 27, 2015 | Baseball
Coming off of a road series win over UConn, the Memphis baseball team has entered the national rankings for the first time since 1994. The Tigers debut at No. 24 in Monday's Baseball America poll.
"It's good," Tiger coach Daron Schoenrock said to the Commercial Appeal. "I think it's a reflection of the conference starting to get respect nationally. Baseball is very good in this league. Whoever is leading this league is going to be nationally ranked."
Memphis (29-13, 9-6) sits in a four-way tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference with South Florida, East Carolina and Houston. The Tigers won earlier series against all three opponents.
In addition to the weekend series win, Memphis also picked up victories over Ole Miss and Belmont during the 4-1 week. The Tigers scored three runs in the opening frame against Ole Miss and never trailed in the game.
Memphis will play another two midweek games this week. The Tigers travel to Arkansas State for a game Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Mississippi Valley State Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at FedExPark.
