On Sunday, Tubbs led off the game with a single up the middle to also extend his current on-base streak to 18 games. He advanced to both second and third on wild pitches before scoring on Tucker Tubbs' sacrifice fly on a ball lifted into foul territory on the first base side of the field.
Memphis added a run in the third inning.
Jake Overbey reached safely on an error, and after advancing to third on a passed ball and stolen base, scored when Kane Barrow grounded out to short.
The Tigers' lead stretched to 3-0 with a run in the fifth inning.
Overbey singled with two outs, and after stealing second, scored when Barrow reached safely on an Alcorn error.
The Braves reached Memphis reliever Blake Meyers for a walk by Collin Carroll and an RBI double down the left field line by pinch hitter Jordan Boston for Alcorn State's first run. Memphis' second reliever of the inning, Craig Caufield, would get the Tigers out of the jam, with three straight outs - a fly out to right and a pair of ground outs to the left side of the infield.
Caufield would work two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit. Nolan Blackwood came on in the ninth inning and gave up a walk before ending the game with a strikeout to earn his seventh save of the year.
Memphis starter Connor Alexander worked six scoreless innings, striking out four and scattering six hits to improve to 3-0 on the year. Braves starter Nick Brooks, who started two games of the series in left field, fell to 0-3.
The midweek Arkansas series is the start of a busy two-week stretch for the Tigers who open American Athletic Conference play Friday at East Carolina. Following the Ole Miss game next week, Memphis plays host to nationally-ranked and conference favorite Houston April 2-4.
