Tigers Rifle Finishes Fourth At GARC Championships

Burkhardt 14th, Lee 16th are squad's top aggregate score finishers.
OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 10-ranked University of Memphis rifle squad competed in the 2015 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships this weekend and placed fourth overall out of nine squads. All nine teams in the GARC are ranked among the nation's top-20.
The Tigers were fourth with an aggregate score of 4649. Top-ranked West Virginia won the GARC Championships team crown with a score of 4709, followed by No. 5 Kentucky second (4671) and No. 7 Nebraska third (4664).
Memphis was third in smallbore (2308) and fourth in air rifle (2341).
Senior Max Burkhardt was the Tigers' top individual finisher in combined score, placing 14th with an aggregate score of 1165 (581-584). Junior Beth Lee was the squad's second-highest finisher at 16th with an 1164 aggregate score (577-587).
Burkhardt placed sixth in smallbore with a score of 581 and advanced to the finals of the discipline. In the finals, the Tigers senior placed eighth.
Haylea Broughton was Memphis' second-highest finisher (15th) in smallbore at 578, and Lee also posted a top-20 performance, coming in 18th (577).
In air rifle, freshman Makennon Doran and Lee led the way with 20th and 21st performances, respectively. Doran shot a 588 and Lee recorded a 587. Burkhardt was the squad's next highest score at 33rd with a 584.
