Volleyball in Florida for Final Road Weekend
Nov 19, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
Tigers play at UCF, Friday, and at USF, Sunday.
A pair of conference clashes on the road in Florida will put the wraps on the 2015 road schedule for Memphis, starting Friday, with a 7 p.m. (ET) match at UCF.
Â
With just two weekends remaining in conference play, Memphis is looking to improve on its current seventh place spot in the standings, and is one game behind Friday night foe, UCF. The Knights won the first matchup in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse and are trying to catch fourth place Cincinnati, a team Memphis swept this season.Â
"With four matches remaining, places third for 11th are up for grabs," head coach April Jauregui said. "It's really how you finish in these last four matches the way the league is this year."
Memphis is also just one game ahead of Sunday foe, USF, coming in to the weekend and just four games separate spots three through nine in the current league standings. With no conference tournament on the slate, the teams have just the regular season round robin to iron out the standings.Â
"We are kind of treating this four-game series like our conference tournament," Jauregui said. "We may revisit not having a conference tournament later, but for now, we'll treat this like our tournament."
The Tigers will close their regular season next weekend at home, hosting Tulane and Houston.Â
"I think we're in a little bit better place right now than the first time we faced these teams," Jauregui said. "I think we'll have a good week of preparation and will go down to Florida some good battles this weekend."
