Tigers Look for Quick Rebound Against Grambling State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers will look to rebound from a hard-fought loss to the eighth ranked Oklahoma Sooners with a 7 p.m. battle with the Grambling State Tigers at FedExForum.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis comes into its third game of the season following a hard-fought 84-78 loss to No. 8 Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon. In the game, freshman Dedric Lawson became the first player since 2008 to have a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Avery Woodson and Markel Crawford each scored a dozen points, while Trahson Burrell added 10 scores. Dedric Lawson's 15 rebounds were a game-high, as the teams ended the game with each pulling down 48 rebounds.
Behind his big effort against the Sooners, Lawson leads the team in scoring (17.5 points per game) and rebounding (9.5 per game), and is second on the team with seven assists, five blocked shots, and five steals. Shaq Goodwin (11.0), Burrell (10.5), and Woodson (10.5) also average in double-figure scoring. Dedric Lawson (9.5) and Goodwin (8.0) hold the lead in rebounding for the Tigers, while Ricky Tarrant has a team-best nine assists and six steals.
SCOUTING GRAMBLING STATE
Grambling State comes into the Thursday evening battle with a 1-2 overallĀ record, falling 61-53 to East Carolina and 82-55 to Ohio State, whileĀ recording an 85-26 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian.
In the last game, a 27-point loss to the Buckeyes, Nigel Riberio andĀ Remond Brown each scored 12, while Ervin Mitchell and Ugur HortumĀ added 10, as the quartet scored 44 of the team's 55 total points in theĀ game.
Ribero and Michael Bethea average in double-figures for the season atĀ 10.7 and 10.3 points per game, each, while Mitchell and Brown averageĀ 9.3 and 8.7 points per game, respectively.Ā Mitchell and Velario Altheimer have each pulled down a team-best 17Ā rebounds over the three games, as Ribero and Brown lead the team withĀ nine assists apiece for the season.
