Men's Basketball Prepares for Afternoon Battle with Sooners

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 2015-16 Memphis Tiger men's basketball looks to continue on its winning ways, as the team hosts the eighth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in a 4 p.m. CT tip-off at FedExForum.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis heads into its second game of the season following a 67-49 win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Saturday evening.
In the game, Shaq Goodwin scored a game-high 15 points while pulling down nine rebounds and blocked a trio of shots. Dedric Lawson, in his collegiate debut, scored 13 points, while his all-around effort included four rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocked shots. Trahson Burrell scored 11 points off of the bench, hitting half of his six shots in the game, while also grabbing five rebounds.
Avery Woodson (nine points) and K.J. Lawson (seven points) narrowly missed double-figures, while Ricky Tarrant Jr. scored four points with four assists, three steals and three rebounds.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
Oklahoma comes into its 2015-16 season-opener with high expectations, as the team returns four of five players that started every game from a season ago, and six of the top scorers from last season, including defending Big 12 Player of the Year Buddy Hield.
Last season Hield averaged 17.4 points and 5.4 rebounds, helping the squad to the 2015 NCAA Tournament East Regional Semifinals. Isaiah Cousins also returns after putting up 11.7 points per game. Point guard Jordan Woodard returns after leading the team with 134 assists and 55 steals, while he and Ryan Spangler averaged just shy of double figures with 9.7 and 9.3 points per game, each.
Hield scored at least 20 points in each of the Sooners' two exhibition games, including 23 in the final tune-up against Mid-America Christian. Spangler reached double-figure scoring in each game, scoring 19 against Mid-America Christian and 13 against Washburn. Cousins dished out a team-best 11 assists over the two exhibition games while Jamuni McNeace pulled down 15 combined rebounds between the two games - tops on the team.
MEMPHIS AS PART OF THE ESPN COLLEGE HOOPS MARATHON
This season marks the sixth year that the Memphis Tigers have participated in the ESPN 24-hour event, and have a 3-2 all-time record in the aforementioned games. Additionaly, the Tigers are a perfect 3-0 in games played in Memphis during the event.
MEMPHIS VS. BIG 12
Josh Pastner and the Memphis Tigers have faced off against nine of the 10 teams currently in the Big12 Conference, with the lone exception being the Iowa State Cyclones. Memphis holds a 36-20 lead in the all-time series against the conference, including an overtime loss in the 2008 National Championship against Kansas.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST OKLAHOMA
Memphis leads the long all-time series with the Oklahoma Sooners by a 5-0 margin, and are 2-0 in games where the Sooners are ranked. Of the seven total meetings (including this one and the vacated game from 2007), four have come via a special event (NCAA Tournament, or in-season tournament).
