Nov 13, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
Bierria makes the third signee in the class of 2016 for the Tigers.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis volleyball team rounded out its early signees with an NLI from outside hitter Tai Bierria it was announced by Head Coach April Jauregui, Friday. Bierria joins Brianna Kadiku (Dallas, Texas/Cedar Hill HS) and Addison Root (Wichita, Kan./Collegiate School) as newcomers for the fall of 2016.
Bierria just helped George Walton High School in Georgia to its 10th Class 6A state championship, downing 15 kills in the championship match against South Forsyth. A four-year letterwinner in volleyball, Bierria played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Metairie Park Country Day School, helping her team there to a Louisiana 1A State Championship. As a freshman, she was a Louisiana all-state second team honoree and earned first team honors her sophomore season. She was all-state in Georgia as a junior and was named to the Georgia Senior All Star team earlier this fall after repeating first team, all-state honors. She was also named an Under Armour honorable mention all-america honoree for Walton HS.
"She's a phenomenal athlete and an even better person who comes from a great family," Jauregui said. "She's going to bring depth to our outside, but she's played multiple positions – outside, middle blocker and I think she can contribute some on the right side too. I'm just really excited to add her along with our other two signees. This makes up a really good signing class for Tiger volleyball."
Also a three-year letterwinner as a center in basketball, Bierria played club volleyball with the Louisiana Volleyball Elite program in 13s and 14s and the Crescent City Juniors for 15s. She was a travel team member of the NOLA volleyball program and played for the A5 program in Georgia for her 17s and 18s. She helped her 2015 club team to the AAU Junior National Championships for the 17U Open.
The daughter of Nicole Marshall and Phil Barker, Bierria already has some Bluff City roots, as she is a cousin of former Memphis Grizzly Lawrence Roberts III, who is currently playing in the EuroLeague with the BCM Gravelines.
