Memphis Falls to Roadrunners Friday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (9-8, 1-2 American) dropped a three-set match to UTSA (9-5, 2-1 American) inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Roadrunners opened the match with a 9-1 run fueled by kills from Ally Tribe and Brooke Elliott to grab early momentum. The Tigers answered with points from Zaniah Hoskins, Jasmyn Tate and Janyah Henderson, but UTSA closed strong behind Caroline Tredwell and Elliott to claim the first set, 25-13.
The second set followed a similar pattern as UTSA jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Za'Niya Boyles provided a spark with three kills for the Tigers, but the Roadrunners kept control with contributions from Elliott, Gigi Mason and Taylor Gaines to take the set, 25-17.
In the final frame, Jasmyn Tate notched three early kills to keep Memphis within one at 5-4, but UTSA capitalized on Tiger miscues down the stretch. Memphis committed five errors in the set, allowing the Roadrunners to pull away and seal the match with a 25-13 set victory.

The Tigers continue their homestand this weekend, hosting Rice on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on ESPN+ with Tyler Springs on the call.

- Za'Niya Boyles and Janyah Henderson led the offense with eight kills each.
- Boyles and Henderson also were tied for the team lead with 9.5 points.
- Setters Sydney Marshall and Maddy Bach each registered 12 assists in the match.
- Marshall also led all Tigers in digs with eight in the match.
- Abigail Schlueter had one service ace in the match, giving her 93 in her collegiate career.
- The libero also had five digs. Schlueter has had at least five digs in every match of her career.
- Jasmyn Tate recorded five kills in the match.
- Freshman Brianna Washington finished with three total blocks, all being block assists, to lead the team along with Boyles, who also had three block assists.
- Memphis recorded a season-low 27 kills in the match on a season-low hitting percentage of .055.
