MEMPHIS, Tenn. - -

On the heels of one of the most successful seasons in school history, University of Memphis officials announced Thursday they have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Head Football Coach Justin Fuente.
“It is a genuine pleasure to be able to share that we have a new contract in place for Coach Fuente,” said Memphis President Dr. David Rudd. “He is a proven winner in and out of the classroom and has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to attract, retain and develop student-athletes that have been wonderful ambassadors of our University and the City of Memphis.”
In just three seasons, Fuente has resurrected the Memphis football program, culminating in a 9-3 regular season and an American Athletic Conference Championship in 2014. After leading the Tigers to their first conference title in more than 40 years, he was the unanimous choice for American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award.
“Our football program has enjoyed unprecedented success under Coach Fuente’s leadership and we are excited to finalize this process and move forward,” said Director of Athletics Tom Bowen. “The future of Tiger football is very bright and we look forward to the opportunity to build upon our success in the days and years ahead. “
The Tigers are currently preparing to compete in their first bowl game since 2008. Memphis will face the BYU in the Miami Beach Bowl on Monday, Dec. 22nd. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. (CT) and the game will be carried live on ESPN. For more information visit gotigersgobowl.com.
