@MemphisWBKB Hosting Unbeaten UALR Saturday Morning
Nov 28, 2014 | Women's Basketball
This is the 10th meeting between the two Mid-South schools. Memphis leads the overall series, 7-2, but UALR is on a two-game winning streak in the series, including a 68-63 overtime win in Little Rock last year. The Trojans won their first-ever game against Memphis the last time the two teams squared off in the Fieldhouse, 56-44.
UALR Looking to Extend Win Streak
UALR comes in to Saturday morning's match-up with an unblemished 4-0 record. They are receiving votes in both top 25 polls and opened their season with a road win at No. 24 LSU. They are 2-0 in road games this year, also winning at Rice.
Facing a Stiff Defense
Memphis will be facing the No. 7 ranked defense in the country when Saturday morning's game tips. UALR is currently seventh in the country, allowing just 46.2 points per game through their first four games. The Trojans are also holding opponents to 38.9 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from three-point range. They are also forcing opponents in to 23.5 turnovers per game. Ka'Nesheia Cobbins leads the team with 12 steals through four games (3.0/game).
With the ball in their hands, UALR takes care of its possessions. They have just 59 turnovers on the season and have given up just 17 steals through the first four outings.
Double-Double for Rowser
Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser has had a fast start to her season. In addition to being the Tigers' leading scorer in three of the first five games, she has scored double-digits in all five games (a career-first) and posted her first career double-double in the loss at Southern Illinois, Wednesday. Rowser finished with 13 points (on 5-for-17 shooting) and added a team-high 10 rebounds. The 10 rebounds was a career-best for Rowser.
14 in a Row for Rowser
Mooriah Rowser is leading the team in free-throw attempts, which is a good thing since she is shooting 88.0 percent from the stripe so far this year.
Heading in to the UALR game, she has knocked down 14 consecutive free-throws. Her last miss at the stripe was with 16:40 left in the second half against Samford (11/16/14).
Career Scoring Nights for Miller and Creighton
A pair of Memphis freshmen scored career bests in the loss at Southern Illinois on Wednesday. Damonique Miller, a Little Rock native, scored five points on 2-for-3 shooting, knocking down her first collegiate three-pointer in the process.
Cheyenne Creighton played a bulk of the minutes in the post in the second half against Southern Illinois, finishing with seven points, six rebounds and a steal in 21 minutes. Creighton was 3-for-3 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Four of her six rebounds were off the offensive glass.
Fuqua-Bey Looking for 500th Point
Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey is just one point away from her 500th career point. She is looking to become a member of the 500-500 club. She has 499 career points and 440 career rebounds heading in to the UALR game.
She would be the 25th player in Memphis history to have both 500 points and 500 rebounds. The last Tiger to pass both plateaus was Jasmine Lee (610 rebounds, 910 points).
Fuqua-Bey missed her first start in 55 games at Southern Illinois, but her 10 points off the bench helped the Tigers' bench out-score the SIU bench, 28-5. That double-digit outing was her first since of this season and her first since the conference tournament last year.
