  Series Notes

Cincinnati now leads the all-time series 37-31 over Memphis after today’s victory. 
The Bearcats victory today halted a Memphis four-game win streak in the series. The Tigers had won the last four meetings from 2005-09. 
Prior to this afternoon, Cincinnati’s last victory over Memphis was a 62-60 win in the 2004-05 regular-season finale (Mar. 5, 2005).

  Team Notes

Memphis played its first home game in its new league, the American Athletic Conference, today. It is the sixth different conference for the Tigers in their history. 
With today’s loss, Memphis’ record in “first-ever” home openers in a new league is 2-4. Prior to today, the Tigers won their Mississippi Valley and Conference USA “first-ever” home openers. Memphis lost its “first-ever” home openers in the Missouri Valley, Metro and Great Midwest leagues. 
The Tigers played their 51st all-time conference home opener today versus Cincinnati. Memphis now has a 35-16 record (.686 winning percentage) in conference home openers. 
Memphis is 16-5 (.762 winning percentage) in its last 21 conference home openers. 
Under head coach Josh Pastner, the Tigers are 4-1 in conference home openers. Today’s setback was the first conference home-opener loss in the Pastner era. 
Today’s setback to Cincinnati ended a streak of 12-straight conference home-opening wins for Memphis. The Tigers last lost a conference home opener in the 2000-01 season, a 75-67 setback to Southern Miss Dec. 27, 2000 (Conference USA). 
Today’s loss ended the Tigers’ 27-game conference win streak. The streak dated back to February of the 2011-12 season. Before Saturday, Memphis’ last conference setback was a 60-58 loss to UTEP at FedExForum Feb. 18, 2012. 
The Tigers scored 53 points today. The last time Memphis scored fewer points was in a 70-48 loss to Michigan State in last year’s NCAA Tournament (third round; Mar. 23, 2013). The last time the Tigers netted fewer points in a conference game came in the 2010-11 season. Memphis scored 47 points in a 74-47 setback at UTEP Feb. 26, 2011.

  Player Notes

For the 49th time in his career and the sixth time this season, David Pellom shot 50 percent or better from the floor. Pellom was 4-of-5 for an 80.0 field goal percentage versus the Bearcats Saturday. 
Chris Crawford played in his 109th-consecutive contest vs. Cincinnati today. 
Joe Jackson moved up the Memphis career scoring chart with his 13 points vs. Cincinnati Saturday. He remained in the No. 14 spot, but went over the 1,400-point plateau for his career. He now has 1,404 career points. Up next for Jackson is Mike Butler, who is No. 13 with 1,409 career points from 1965-68. 
Chris Crawford also moved up the Tigers career scoring list with his five points vs. Cincinnati Saturday. He is now in the No. 42 spot, tied with Billy Smith (1990-93), with 1,040 career points.

  Up Next for Memphis

Memphis travels to Louisville, Ky., Thursday, Jan. 9 to face its longtime rival, the Louisville Cardinals. The game, to be televised by ESPN, is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) tip.
