SERIES NOTES

Memphis now leads the overall series with Jackson State, 14-1, after 10 straight wins.
Memphis now has an all-time record of 25-1 against members of the SWAC with the only loss coming in 1993 to Jackson State.

GAME NOTES

With a 36-29 disadvantage on the boards, Memphis has now been outrebounded in four of its five games this season. However, the Tigers are 3-1 in those contests. 
After a 1-for-6 start from the free throw line, Memphis made 14 of its next 19 shots from the charity stripe to go 15-for-25 (.600) overall. 
With 15 points in the game, Joe Jackson scored in double figures for the third time this year and the 19th time in his career. He also led the Tigers in scoring for the ninth time in his career. 
Chris Crawford’s 14 points were a season high and the first time this year he has scored in double digits. He reached double figures seven times last season.
After going with the same starting line-up in the first four games of the season, Memphis inserted two new players to start the contest vs. Jackson State as sophomore transfer Stan Simpson made his first career start and Crawford made his first start of the year. Crawford made 19 starts in 35 games played last season. 
The home team got off to a slow shooting start, missing its first six shots of the game until a Stan Simpson putback at the 17:38 mark. Memphis recovered from the rough start by making its next five shots from the floor during an 11-2 run. 
After Jackson State tied the game at 13-13 with 9:01 left in the first half, Memphis held the visiting Tigers scoreless for the next 6:58 while establishing a 23-13 lead. The drought finally ended with a pair of free throws at the 2:03 mark. 
JSU managed just one bucket from the floor in the final 9:01 of the first half, a tip-in with two seconds left on the clock. The visitors missed 13 straight shots from the field until the buzzer-beater. 
Memphis’ 25 first-half points are the fewest points scored by the Tigers in any half this season. 
Memphis began the second half with a 15-0 run over the first four minutes. Overall, the Tigers outscored Jackson State, 27-6, spanning the break to go from a 13-13 tie to a dominating 40-19 lead.
