Memphis Postgame Notes
* Memphis extended its winning streak against the Thundering Herd to seven games. The Tigers also ran their home Conference USA winning streak to eight games in a row.
* Early signs: Memphis is now 9-0 this season in games where they control the opening tip-off.
* The Tigers shot lights-out in the first half, with a season-high 63.0 percent (17-for-27) mark from the field. In holding Marshall to just 26.9 percent (7-for-26) from the field in the opening half, the Tigers put together the first half this season where they have shot better than 55 percent from the field and held the opponent to under 30 percent.
* From the 11:51 mark until 5:30 in the first, Marshall was held without a single point. Memphis used that to take a tie ball-game and turn it into a 20-point Tiger advantage.
* For the game, the Tigers shot 50.9 percent from the field (29-for-57), the third time in their last six contests the U of M has hit better than half their shots from the floor.
* Memphis, which entered play ranked second in Conference USA in steals per game at 9.7, disrupted Marshall's offense time and again with well-timed thefts. The Tigers finished the contest with 11 steals, the first time since Dec. 16 against Austin Peay that Memphis has stolen the ball more than 10 times in one game.
* A starting five of Tarik Black, Joe Jackson, Charles Carmouche, Will Barton and Drew Barham was the 11th different combination of starters Josh Pastner has tried this season. That number is just two behind Pepperdine for most starting line-up combinations in the nation this season.
* Carmouche broke out of his slump, nailing three three-pointers en route to 16 points. Carmouche, who battled illness for most of the last few weeks, wound up in double figures for the first time since he had 12 points, Dec. 20, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
* Senior Will Coleman earned his first double-double of the season, and fourth of his career, with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort against the Thundering Herd. It marked the fifth time in his Tiger career Coleman has had a double-digit rebounding performance and now gives the Tigers four double-doubles during the 2010-11 season.
* Black had one of the better games of his young career, scoring 12 points. It marks the fifth time during his freshman season Black has scored in double-figures, and the fourth time in his past seven outings. Black is now averaging 10.3 points and 7 rebounds in three conference games this season.
* Memphis had 20 assists against the Thundering Herd, and is undefeated (5-0) this season when they have 20 or more helpers as a squad.
* The Tigers are now 11-1 when scoring 70 points or more this season.
* Memphis attempted just nine three-pointers, its lowest total of the season, against Marshall. Carmouche was the only Tiger to make a three-pointer, meaning that freshman Antonio Barton's streak of seven games in a row with a made three-pointer came to an end.
* Sixteen Marshall turnovers led to 22 Tiger points, the most Memphis has capitalized on opponent miscues since getting 29 points off turnovers against Kansas, Dec. 7.
* Led by Coleman's 19 points, the Tiger bench was a major contributor for the fifth game in a row, chipping in 30 of Memphis' 77 points. Marshall had just eight bench points, the fewest by an opponent against Memphis this season.
* The Tigers outrebounded Marshall, 39-29; through three conference games, the Tigers are outrebounding opponents by 27 rebounds (110-83).
