MEMPHIS, TENN. - Five Tigers were named to the All-Conference USA Team voted on by the 12 league coaches. The representatives for Memphis include senior linebacker Jamon Hughes, who was named to the first team and senior offensive lineman Dominik Riley, who was placed on the second team. Punter Tom Hornsey, offensive lineman Ricky Hart and cornerback Mohammed Seisay were all named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
Hughes is Memphis' first Tiger defender named to the league's first team since lineman Clinton McDonald in 2008. Hughes ranks third nationally and leads C-USA in tackles with 147. He was named the C-USA Player of the Week for his 21-tackle effort against USM. He posted eight games of 10-plus tackles and four games with 15 or more stops as a senior. He was credited with a career-best 15 solo stops versus USM, and also posted 14 solos against UAB. Hughes leads the league in assisted tackles and is second in the league in solo stops. He ended the season ranked tied for fourth in the Memphis top 10 in single-season tackles and logged double-digit stops in every C-USA game this season.
Riley, a preseason All-C-USA honoree, started at right guard all 10 of the games he played in this year, and has made 32 consecutive starts on the Tiger offensive line. Riley worked 423 offensive plays this season and is a leader on and off the field for the Tiger offensive line. He has participated on more than 80 percent of the offensive plays in seven of the 10 games this season. For his community service and academic excellence, Riley was a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and the ARA Sportsmanship Award, and was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team last week.
Hornsey, a true freshman Australian punter, was playing in his first-ever American football games this year. He ranks second nationally in yards punted (3,416) and third nationally in total punts (80). He ranks third in C-USA with his 42.7 punting average, and was one of two true freshmen on 2010 Ray Guy Watch List. Hornsey totaled 17 punts over 50 yards, and dropped 24 punts inside the 20, while only 30 percent of his punts were returned. Hornsey logged 400-plus yards in three games, and was named the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week following the MTSU game in which he registered 417 yards punting. In just his first season, Hornsey holds the U of M school record in single-season yards punted and is tied for the record in single-season punts.
Seisay, a redshirt freshman, started all 12 games at cornerback. He was one of just three defensive players this season to start all 12 games; and the only one in the secondary to do so. He recorded 39 tackles, including 23 solo stops, as the second-leading tackler in the Memphis secondary. Seisay logged three or more tackles in nine games and posted six tackles versus ECU, Tennessee and UAB. His two interceptions this season were in back-to-back games versus MTSU and UTEP.
Hart, a redshirt freshman, played in eight games, making three starts in the offensive line. He worked at both the left and right guard positions, and participated on 160 total offensive plays this year. Hart saw his first game action of his career against Middle Tennessee and played in 63 of the team's 72 offensive plays. He was called upon and stepped up against UTEP and started in place of an injured Dominik Riley, working all 70 snaps of that game.
An additional six players received honorable mention All-C-USA accolades including: receiver Marcus Rucker, defensive linemen Dontari Poe and Frank Trotter, kicker Paulo Henriques, punter Tom Hornsey and long snapper Keenan Bratcher.
