BancorpSouth Arena -- Tupelo, Miss.
• This marks the first time that a basketball game has sold out the BancorpSouth Arena, with 7,941 patrons attending this game. The Tupelo, Miss., arena has hosted games featuring Ole Miss and Mississippi State, as well as the Gulf South Conference Tournament from 2001 to 2005.
• The Tigers improve to 4-0 to start the season marking the first time since 2008-09 Memphis has opened a campaign with four victories.
• Memphis improves to 2-3 in neutral site games in Mississippi, picking up a neutral-court win in the Magnolia State for the first time since defeating South Carolina, 71-56, in Biloxi in 1990.
• The Tigers pick up their first victory over an SEC opponent since beating Tennessee, 54-52, Jan. 24, 2009. Memphis is now 90-67 all-time against SEC competition, including 3-2 all-time against LSU.
• Freshman Tarik Black made his first start and had his finest performance of the young season, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds, both career highs.
• A Tiger defense that was leading Conference USA with 12.7 steals per contest coming into play was limited to just seven swipes against LSU.
• Ball Control, yet again: Memphis' ball-handling woes continued against LSU; the Tigers turned the ball over 16 times while coming up with only nine assists against LSU.
• Memphis held LSU without a field goal over the first 6:10 of the second half, and clinched the game by holding the opposing Tigers without a field goal over the final 4:48.
• Sophomore Wesley Witherspoon followed up his season-high 24 point effort against Northwestern State with a 20-point night against LSU, the first back-to-back 20-point outings since having a career-high 29 against Houston and 26 against Gonzaga, Feb. 3 and Feb. 6, 2010. He also broke into double figures for the third game in a row after opening the season with just seven points against Centenary.
• Free throw woes: The Tigers shot just 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the charity stripe, their worst team effort since shooting 56.5 percent (13-for-23) at Ole Miss in Memphis' 2010 NIT second round loss.
• LSU's bench players were held without a point throughout the entire second half after it had scored 18 points in the first half.
• LSU shot just 34.6 percent (18-for-52) from the field, the third Tiger opponent of 2010 to shoot below 40 percent from the floor.
