Memphis, Tenn. -
Sophomore goalkeeper Elise Kuhar-Pitters was named Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Week as announced by C-USA Monday.
The Spokane, Wash. native recorded back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season as the Lady Tigers opened conference play. Kuhar-Pitters picked up her eighth career shutout at Southern Miss Friday and her ninth career shutout on Sunday against 20th-ranked UCF. Kuhar-Pitters now ranks third place all-time with her nine shutouts, six shy of second place record holder Katarina Wicksell. She has posted two shutouts against ranked opponents on the road this season (#25 LSU & #20 UCF).
Kuhar-Pitters is the first Lady Tiger goalkeeper to win C-USA Defensive Player of the Week since Isabel Birones received the honor on Aug. 28 2006. She leads C-USA goalkeepers with a 0.67 goals against average. This is her first career C-USA Player of the Week honor.
Kuhar-Pitters is the second Lady Tiger to be named player of the week for Memphis this season. Vendula Strnadova was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week Aug. 23.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Friday at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex, playing host to the UTEP Miners. Kick-off is set for 7 pm.
