Tiger Football Q&A With Joel McCleod

Joel McCleod saw action in 11 games last season as a redshirt freshman for the defensive line. He made his collegiate debut against Ole Miss, and had three tackles in that game. He made the transition to the offensive line this past spring and could add some much needed depth at a position that was hit hard by graduation. GoTigersGo.com sat down with Joel for a short Q&A session this summer.
Q. What have you had going on so far over the summer months?
A. Over the summer months I have just been concentrating on going to school and workouts and getting ready for the season.
Q. What classes have you been taking?
Right now I have been taking astronomy and an astronomy lab, along with a tennis class. So I can get smart and in shape at the same time.
Q. How has the tennis class been going?
A. It is a little different than football.
Q. Have you been able to go home to Florida at all this summer?
A. I went back to Miami. I went home to see my family and hung out with some friends.
Q. Do you get home very often?
A. I get to go home on winter break and summer break.
Q. What is it that you want Memphis fans to know about you?
A. I am a hard worker. I am going to do everything that I can to help this team win games.
Q. What are some of your hobbies?
A. Outside of football I like to play football video games on PS3 or XBOX. I am probably the best on the team at it. I like to hang out with friends. Go to the movies. If we don't have mandatory workouts, I will just go over to the rec center and get a normal workout.
Q. When you play NCAA Football, do you play as Memphis?
A. Yes.
Q. Who is your biggest competition in NCAA Football?
A. Ron Leary. We always get after it.
Q. Do you usually get the best of him?
A. Yes. He will beat me every now and then, but I usually get the best of him. We both are on the offensive line, so we are always together and we are always competitive.
Q. You just moved to the offensive line during the off-season. How has that transition been for you?
A. It has been good. That is what I mainly played in high school. I played both ways in high school. When I made the transition I was happy because I knew it was a position I could play at. It feels natural.
Tickets are on sale now for home and away games for the 2009 season. Season tickets for the six home contests are $180 in the prime seats and $90 in the fun zone. Individual game tickets are $30 for the prime seats and $10 in the fun zone, with the exception of the Ole Miss game on Sept. 6, which is listed at $55 for all tickets.
