Mathena Named to 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA – University of Memphis football student-athlete Donovan Mathena was named to the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the Wuerffel Foundation announced on Tuesday.
Mathena, a redshirt senior from Collierville, Tennessee, finds himself on the watch list for the second season in a row after earning a spot on the 2025 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team. Mathena's 38 games played in the blue and gray are matched by his continued commitment off the field in volunteering in the Memphis area.
In his four seasons at Memphis, Mathena has helped the Tigers to four bowl-game appearances and three bowl victories.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recognizes student-athletes who use their platforms to serve others and make a positive impact in their communities. Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and former University of Florida quarterback, the award reflects his lifelong commitment to leadership, service and unity.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, to be announced in September, will include 11 student-athletes from the watch list that will become semifinalists for the award. The recipient of the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will be announced December 11.
