MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After missing the first two regular season games with a shoulder injury, University of Memphis senior Joey Dorsey returned to the floor Monday in exhibition action and posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 90-35 victory over Christian Brothers. Tiger sophomore Doneal Mack led all scorers with 15 points and also grabbed seven boards.
Kevin Weybright and Nick Kohs each netted nine points to pace the Buccaneers.
The opening minutes saw Christian Brothers staying close with the Tigers, and when Kohs hit a layup at the 17:06 mark of the first half, the score was tied at 7-all. But, that's when Memphis took over and put together a 23-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take a commanding 30-10 advantage with 6:43 left in the first half. Dorsey scored six of his 10 points in the run, including a steal that led to a rim-rattling dunk.
The Tigers led 41-17 at the break.
It was more of the same after the intermission, as Memphis began the second half with a 14-0 spurt to increase the lead to 55-17 at the 15:32 mark. Chris Douglas-Roberts scored six points to pace the Tiger run.
Other Tigers scoring in double figures were Douglas-Roberts with 13 points and Shawn Taggart with 10 points.
Memphis shot 50 percent from the floor and held Christian Brothers to 28.8 percent from the field and 13 percent from the arc. The Tigers dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Buccaneers 53-26.
The Tigers (2-0) return to action Thursday in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic semifinal versus Oklahoma. Game time is 8:00 p.m. (CT) at Madison Square Garden.
