Lady Tiger Tennis Advances Three to Championship Semifinals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It took two indoor tennis facilities to do it thanks to the rain and cold that has dominated the Memphis skies the last five days, but the first day of the Lady Tiger Invitational has wrapped with the semifinals set in both singles and doubles.
On the doubles side, the teams of Weijenborg and Van Den Houte of UALR and McGahee and Pennington from Murray State will play in the first championship semifinal, while the team of Quist and Thomson from Ball State will face the team of Webb and Ottosen from Murray State in the second championship semifinal in Division 1 doubles.
In Division 2 doubles, the Ball State tandem of Hall and Retter will face UALR's Cortes and Garay in the first championship semifinal, while the team of Brown and Trigg from Western Kentucky will face the Memphis team of Ekin Zafir and Amanda Brown in the second championship semifinal.
In Division I singles, players from four different teams advanced to the championship semifinals. UALR's Latetitia Bourgeon will face Western Kentucky's Marija Djuran in the first championship semifinal, while Ball State's Sophie Quist will face Southern Illinois' Michaela Cruise in the second semifinal. On the consolation side of No. 1 singles, Southern Illinois' Sabine Tsala will face Murray State's Anne Pennington, while UALR's Partres Cortez will face Tennessee Tech's Diana Woodcock.
In Division 2 singles, Ball State has two players through to the semifinals, with Hayley Hall advancing to the semifinal, where she will face Southern Illinois' Jessica Flannery. In the other championship semifinal Marta Gomez-Jordana of UALR will face Ball State's Georgina Thomson in the second semifinal. On the consolation side of that draw Western Kentucky's Carrie True will face UALR's Anne Weijenborg, while Alexis Webb of Murray will face another Western Kentucky player, Brittany Waiz, in the second consolation semifinal.
In Division 3 singles, Memphis' Dara Toulch advanced to the championship semifinals with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Rebecca Van Den Houte of UALR, and will now face Ball State's Jennifer Pollack in the first semifinal. The second semifinal will feature Murray State's Ashley Pierson against Memphis' Amanda Brown. In the backdraw, Tennessee Tech's Carolina Pachon will face Murray State's Adriana Alvarez in the first consolation semifinal, while Southern Illinois' Amanda Taillefer will face Lipscomb's Britt Kuertz in the second consolation semifinal.
In Division 4 singles, Ball State's Rachael Surowiec will face UALR's Nathalia Garay in the first semifinal, while teammate Emma Retter will face Memphis' Lindsey Wiseman in the second championship semi. In the backdraw, Krystal Brown of Western Kentucky will find out Saturday morning who she will face as the match between Memphis' Kristin Chamberlain and Murray's Katelyn Fulcher was moved to Saturday. Lauren Williams of Lipscomb will face Western Kentucky's Francis Trigg in other consolation semifinal.
The tournament will move back outdoors Saturday with all matches being played at Rhodes College. Matches begin at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles.
